Daddy's Pride / Holiday

  • Happy Presidents' Day

Happy Presidents' Day! Another holiday to spend time with the little one, and an opportunity to start teaching my 16 month old son a few Presidential facts. Let's start with a few questions, and add to the list throughout the year. 1. Who is the President of the United States? 2. Where does the President live and work? 3. Who was the first president of the United States?

  • Purple Princess

Happy Valentine’s Day! To begin celebrating the day, I took my wife and son out for breakfast. We were enjoying our time together, when a bubbly little girl came over to our son and said “hi”. Our son who had previously been babbling and making a raucous was stunned into silence. He stared at the little girl with her sparkly purple Disney princess t-shirt in awe as she introduced herself to us and told us she was 4. She went on to explain in great excitement that she was going to turn 5 soon, and her parents were going to throw her a big monster party in a haunted house. My son continued to stare with curiosity as she invited him to the party and tried to convince him how fun it would be. And then as suddenly as she appeared at our table, she was gone, skipping out of the restaurant with her parents. It was at this precise moment, when the girl was just out of sight, that my son decided to raise his hand and say “hi” with enthusiasm. Poor little man was a little too late with his greeting. I guess I will have to teach him to be bold when a friendly girl approaches him… But just not too bold!

  • Xmas Tree

As I mentioned in the last blog, we planned on getting a Christmas Tree during the weekend. And we did it! Who said plans were meant to be broken. :) So, our tree is up and fully decorated. Once our son saw the lights shine bright he smiled and loved it. And that's all that matters. Now we just have to build a moat so that our son wont attack the tree.

  • Next Holiday

Now that the November holidays are over, it's time to get ready for the next holiday. This weekend we will pick up the tree and decorate it. I asked the little man if he wanted to help, and he answered with a resounding yes. I think he's excited about helping us because last year around this time he couldn't even roll over. He just watched us do all the work. This year he can actually be part of the fun. Let's see how it goes.

  • Fall Back

During last year's daylight savings time, we did not really get to enjoy turning the clock back one hour. We were new parents back then, which meant we were up all night taking care of the little one. We probably needed an extra five hours of sleep...not one hour. So, yesterday I made sure to enjoy my extra hour. Unlike most people who tend to sleep in on Sunday, I made good use of the extra hour by going to bed earlier. I guess this is what you have to do when you have a little one waking you up in the morning.

  • Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! We took our son trick or treating the day before the storm. Our curious monkey was more interested in the leaves than candy. However, we did manage to visit a few of the neighbors.

  • Hurricane Sandy

Our son was born on the day of the unusual October snow storm of 2011. This year we were hit with Hurricane Sandy on his birthday, and we were very lucky to have come out of it safe. I wonder what weather event his second birthday will bring. All we can say is that these natural disasters make you appreciate the important things in life...family, friends, good health, and safety. We wish all the families who were hit hard by the storm a speedy recovery to their normal way of life.

  • Cute vs Scary

My wife and I have been talking about what our son should be for the Halloween. She wants him to be something cute, as I was thinking of him being something scary. However, she made a good point....we have only a few years to dress him up cute and cuddly. As he gets older, like most boys, he may choose to be a scary monster or a super hero. We will not get a vote at that time. So I gave in, and now we are brain storming on cute costumes for our son. I definitely will veto pumpkin or strawberry.

  • Happy Labor Day

Yesterday, I was at the gym, and this woman wished me happy holidays. I never thought of Labor Day as a holiday, but her greetings made me realize, she was right. Labor day used to be just a day off for me, but now it means my wife and I get to spend precious time with our son, enjoy the end of summer weather, and start looking forward to autumn. So, happy labor day to all of you, and enjoy the break from work.

  • Happy 4th of July!!!

Happy 4th of July! Ironically, our morning started with watching Wimbledon. Celebrating an American holiday with a British sporting event. Our son was captivated by the green court, the sound of the ball being hit back and forth, and the roaring crowd. I wonder what he's thinking. "Why are these people running around on a green carpet with people watching them?" or "Cool...ball, noises, and lots of space to move around." He watched the match with his milk in his hand, but maybe in a few years he will be eating strawberries and cream, the traditional breakfast of Wimbledon. Happy 4th of July. However you choose to celebrate the national holiday, I hope you enjoy your time with your family and friends. Cheers!

  • Father's Day Recap

Yesterday my wife and son treated me to a great father's day brunch. They must think I'm an awesome daddy. They made sunny side up eggs with tons of lobster, spicy guacamole, salsa, crème fraiche, and a pop over with honey butter. To top it off, we had mimosas in fancy goblets. I was very impressed. Once I have a wonderful brunch, I'm good for the day and can't ask for more. However, there was more! During the afternoon, we did not do any work. We just sat in our yard for a couple of hours, played with our son, and watched shows via computer. It was relaxing. Later in the evening, we went out for dinner and spent time with extended family. I really enjoyed father's day, and I hope all of you were treated with love and appreciation. I know I was.

  • Mother's Day

Happy belated mother’s day. I can’t believe I forgot to post a happy mother’s day wish on my blog, but I was celebrating the day with my wife and son. We all went out for brunch, and afterwards my son let his mother shop to her heart’s content. He was on best behavior, smiling and flirting with all the sales people, and admiring all the clothes. He even carried the coupon book all around while chewing on its edges. My son exhibited more patience than I did while shopping which made his mother very happy.
